You're An Overcomer

It is a beautiful day, full of life. I sit in bed with my laptop and hear songbirds as sunlight fills the sky. I can only imagine their songs.
If I had to guess, the songs they are singing would be songs of praise to our Creator and King, the Great I AM. A verse in Chronicles reinforces this thought. The verse says, "Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; and let them say among the nations, 'The Lord reigns.’”

What I see in that verse is that everything God creates that has life rejoices and/or is glad in its Creator. Reminds me of another verse that says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” Last I checked, the songbird that is singing in my ears is breathing the breath that the Creator placed in it.
I truly believe, with scriptures like the ones we just read, God desires us to enjoy the life he gave us to live. There are tons of other scriptures that support this idea.
Look at the book of John, which reads in verse 33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
On one side of the coin, we see God’s desire concerning our outlook on things while going through tribulation, which does not feel all that good, I might add. He tells us to “be of good cheer.” To me, that sounds like God is letting us know where our attitude and outlook on life should be when things don’t go the way we desire.
Jesus even gives us a reason for having the pinpoint focus on being of good cheer when He says, “I have overcome the world.” He is telling us that we can overcome, because He overcame. That is great news. News that lets us know God wants His kids to enjoy life, even through the hard times.
There is a flip side to the coin. The side that our flesh wants to rule in. While God desires us to enjoy a life in Christ, our fleshly, trained thought patterns—such as unbelief, fear, and anxiety—often hinder that experience.
One thing I have learned is that my experiences do not dictate what God’s desire is for me. God’s word dictates His desire for me. If I’m not enjoying my life here on earth, then I may need to take a much-needed look at my thought patterns. I may also need to examine what I truly believe or don’t believe.
God is true. As a child of God, that should be the foundation of my thought life. Everything hinges on that truth, that God is true. Reading scripture requires me to lock in on a fundamental truth: I am consuming the absolute, pure truth of God.
So when you read scripture that reflects God’s desire for you to have a good life, you can believe that to be the ultimate truth. He wants you not just to live, but to enjoy while you live. That’s our Father!
